If you are pursuing a dream path in tech, then you must have heard of the Tech Lead and Tech Interview Pro program.
The Techlead is no stranger to the tech space. Similarly, the Tech Interview Pro is also a well-known course that has garnered a lot of controversies making people skeptical about it.
In this Tech Interview Pro review, I aim to give answers to all questions and controversies surrounding the course, and if it’s a valuable investment for anyone looking to land a job in the tech industry.
You are sure to have a better view and understanding of the Tech Interview Pro program at the end of this article.
What is Tech Interview Pro?
The Tech Interview Pro is a course or program that promises to help software engineers scale through any interview process.
Initially when the course started, it was launched and managed by the Tech Lead (Patrick Shyu) and Joma (he also runs a Youtube channel).
However, there was a total rebranding and the Tech Interview Pro course is now run by the Tech Lead alone.
There was a reason for the total rebranding of the course from TechInterviewPro.com to Techseries.dev which would be brought up later on.
Since the rebranding, the Tech Lead is the sole-owner and founder of the course. He created this program to help software engineers and all tech guys.
The goal is for them to be ahead of others when they go for an interview. This program covers a lot as he goes in-depth into many things.
Tech Interview Pro is a program that gives you access to resume reviews and coding videos. Individuals who subscribe to this course also access a private Facebook group. You can get this for a lifetime.
Be it a virtual or face-to-face interview; you will see videos that serve as a guide with this program. Tech Interview Pro is a program with over 150 lessons.
Understandably, some things might confuse you during the course. But, you also get access to have sessions with the founder and others when you have access to this program. Thus, getting clarifications is not difficult.
Before going further, you might want to know more about Tech Lead – the instructor.
Tech Interview Pro Course Instructor – The Techlead
Many people know him as The TechLead. But he was born Patrick Shyu and grew up in Silicon Valley.
It is not surprising that he has a comprehensive knowledge of tech. Patrick Shyu has worked in some of the known biggest brands. His readiness to share knowledge led to the creation of the Tech Interview Pro.
Patrick has worked for Sony, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and others. Asides from working for people and companies, he also has some inventions and creations to his name.
If you have ever heard of humanpets.com, it was created by Patrick Shyu. He is an alumnus of the University of California.
Something that intrigues many people about this man is how he admits his divorce. You are not wrong to say that he is free and open-minded.
If you have been on this YouTube, you will see videos where he talked about his divorce.
Patrick Shyu is also a game developer of several iOS games. World Blood is one of them, and he became a millionaire before the age of 25. He has his iOS games to thank for this.
The Tech Lead is a mentor to many people, and this is not out of place. As a tech enthusiast, you might want to keep up with him.
Tech Interview Pro – Course Outline
Recall how we mentioned that the Tech Interview Pro program has over 150 courses. We would try to highlight details of some of these courses.
We do not want you to be in the dark. Getting insights on what to expect will power you to subscribe to this course.
The Tech Lead does not hold back in what he offers during the program. He is driven by the passion for tech guys to succeed and excel. We like that he combines all his expertise to ensure that this is a top-notch and high-standard course.
A typical interview process has several stages. There is the part of conversing with the interviewer on random things. You also get to answer questions that pertain to your field. How to keep your emotions in check is essential during an interview. The Tech Interview Pro program covers all these.
If you are successful in the interview process, you also have the negotiation stage. Here, you get to deliberate about your salary offer. How to ensure that you are not underpaid is something that this program also covers.
As an introduction to the program, you learn how the interview setting works and what to expect. You might think that you know it already. But you are in for a ride as you will get new knowledge.
The Tech Lead then proceeds to teach about:
Coding: Coding is an integral part of the tech industry. During the program, you will learn what type of coding questions to expect and how to answer them.
This course takes students a step higher. The learning process might be intense, but it is always rewarding. Individuals get to analyze coding problems and get solutions.
Data Structures & Algorithms: Every software engineer or tech guy will agree that they also deal with data and algorithms. You will get a broader knowledge about it and how to answer related questions.
If you have been struggling with the technical area, you are in luck. The Tech Lead breaks down everything, and you will learn a lot.
Binary Search Trees? Bits Manipulation? Has Tables? All these and more are a part of Tech Interview Pro courses.
Systems Design: The Tech Lead strives to ensure that his students are not the bare minimum. It is why he ensures that his course is encompassing.
Some people may brag that they excel in codes and understand the in-depths of data structure.
But do they know how to prepare it for production? You will also learn about the production aspect with Tech Interview Pro. It is impossible not to excel and be above par with this course.
Communication: There is also the communication aspect of the course. It prepares you on how to dialogue with the interviews. It also preps you on how to relate with your colleagues when you scale through the interview.
Communication is an essential aspect of society. It cannot be overlooked. You will have a mock interview with the Tech Lead during the course of the program.
One can say that irrespective of the amount to pay for this program, you will get your value!
Extras and Bonuses
Why does it seem like there is an increasing popularity status for Tech Interview Pro? That is a question that many people ask.
We would not be here reviewing this course if it did not get our interest (both the bad sides and good).
There is more to this course as you get to enjoy some extras and bonuses.
You get to enjoy extras and bonuses as a part of the fee you pay for the program. One can say that it is encompassing. It is a part of the reason why the program now has increased popularity.
We know that you are eager to find out these extras and bonuses that come with the Tech Interview Pro package.
1. Private Facebook Group:
As the name implies, we are sure that you can already guess what to expect. By signing up for the Tech Interview Pro program, you get access to a private Facebook group.
One of its benefits is that you get to be in a community with like minds. If you have challenges or difficulties that relate to the field, you can get answers from others. This extra makes us think deeper.
In this age and era, it is out of place to see anyone who is not on at least one social media platform.
Tech Interview Pro has successfully taken advantage of the social media trend. We cannot tell why the Tech Lead chose Facebook as his preferred social media platform.
We can only state speculations as Facebook is a popular platform when it comes to having groups. What matters is that it comes in handy, and you will feel a sense of warmth. After all, who does not like to be a part of an interest group?
There are more than 1000 members on this Facebook group. Even if you are not always active, you will learn something new whenever you go to the group.
The Tech Lead also goes the extra mile to get professionals on the group. These people regularly give out tips and mentorship. You also get to make new friends and connections by being a part of this group.
2. Resume Review:
It is always right to assume that any job seeker would have a resume. That is what the recruiters use to analyze your abilities before they meet with you.
For many openings, you first have to send your resume. If the recruiters like your resume, they will schedule a dialogue interview.
Thus, there is no reason why you should not pay attention to your resume. People often pay huge amounts to others to help them review their resumes.
But, if you sign up for the Tech Interview Pro program, you will get this service at no extra cost. It is a part of the bonuses that you will enjoy. How does it work? Once you are a part of the Tech Interview Pro, it qualifies you for a resume review.
This is done by none other than the Tech Lead. Many people do not tailor their resumes to the exact position they are applying to.
There are many open positions in the tech field. Suppose you are applying to be a data analyst.
Your resume should not highlight things that concern programming. This mistake is common, but the Tech Lead can help you to correct it at no extra cost.
Your recruiters’ first interaction with you is through your resume. Your chances of getting the job are higher when the Tech Lead reviews your resume. It is an opportunity that anyone would love to get.
3. Bi-weekly Q/A Sessions:
From the regular courses you get to enjoy with Tech Interview Pro, there is more. You also have access to live sessions with the Tech Lead.
If there are things you did not understand, you can ask questions. These live sessions are usually bi-weekly. Some people say that live conversations are better and more understandable.
This might be the case for you. Since the Tech Lead has had experience with many companies, he has a lot to share.
Some students are usually curious to know what it feels like to work in such companies. Others want to know ‘tricks’ on how to get into such companies. The Tech Lead is always ready to answer questions during these sessions.
Through these Q/A sessions, you get to hear about different work experiences from others. Newbies trying to get into a position can listen to what to expect from others already in such positions.
The best part is that you do not need to pay an extra fee to be a part of these live sessions. It is a part of the bonuses you can enjoy from subscribing to the Tech Interview Pro program.
It comes in handy that these live sessions are recorded. Suppose you are a newbie to the Tech Interview Pro program.
Do not worry; you have not missed out on anything. Once you join, you will have access to all previous live sessions. You will not want to miss out on any session once you start!
4. Lifetime Access (Frequent Update):
There is nothing like a duration when you are subscribing to the Tech Interview Pro program. Typically, some programs can be for a month or three months. Some can extend up to a year.
But the Tech Interview Pro program is for a lifetime. By subscribing to this program, you have access to the courses anytime you need them.
Once you are a part of the Facebook group, there is no fear of anyone removing you. Except you leave the group personally, you will always remain there.
Anything that you can access through this program is permanent. Thus, you can use them anytime you wish. The idea is not only for you to scale your present interview.
The goal is for you to pass any interview that you encounter in life. We earlier stated that the live sessions are recorded. It would give you access to previous sessions, even if they were two years ago.
You can encounter a challenge in the future, and remember that an earlier session had the answers you want. In such a case, you will not waste time going back there.
We can say that all materials and benefits you get from subscribing to the Tech Interview Pro program are permanent reference materials.
If you go on the website, they describe the Tech Interview Pro program as a ‘living course.’
According to the website, “This is a “living” course, and we are continuously improving by adding bonus content, tips & tricks, and career mentorship.”
Controversies Around Tech Interview Pro
This review will be incomplete without covering the controversies surrounding Tech Interview Pro.
Infringing Algoexpert name – Legal Issue
One of the sad stories about Tech Interview Pro is that the early founders of the first version, Tech lead and Joma, bought a domain name similar to Algoexpert.
They bought the Algoexpert.com domain name and redirected it to their course, TechInterviewPro.com.
This is an infringement on AlgoExpert intellectual property and stirred up confusion for interested prospects of Algoexpert.
After a series of legal issues involved, Tech lead and Joma later sent an apology to Clement, the founder of Algoexpert.
Here’s a screenshot of the apology letter:
Joma Retiring from the Program
Sooner after everything was settled, Joma retired from the partnership with the Tech lead on the Tech Interview Pro course.
One major reason was that his company requested him to do so.
Most times, these big tech companies don’t want their staff engaging in public-related stuff especially when it comes to revealing some things about them.
Some of the tech interview questions are from the companies the Tech Lead and Joma had access to.
The legal issues together with Joma withdrawing from the program, led Techlead to do a rebranding of the course (close to starting afresh).
The name was rebranded from TechInterviewpro.com to Techseries.dev.
Consequently, he has also launched two other courses too.
Why Tech Interview Pro Instead of LeetCode?
It will be wrong to assume that the Tech Interview Pro program is the available course that helps software engineers with their interviews. Many other options are available. One of them is LeetCode.
Since there is LeetCode, why should one pick the Tech Interview Pro over LeetCode?
LeetCode is an application that helps software engineers with coding. When you go on the website, you have over 800 case study questions. They believe that these coding questions will help to prepare you for your interview.
But, that is limiting. When you go for an interview as a software engineer, you will see that it goes before coding.
The Tech Interview Pro program prepares you for all aspects of your interview, including coding. But the LeetCode covers coding alone.
They will not prepare you for how to converse with your recruiter. Neither will you learn what to expect in such a work environment as a newbie.
There is also the case of pricing. Although there are some free courses on LeetCode, you will pay for most of them.
We can say that you will pay for both the Tech Interview Pro and LeetCode. But there is a difference.
With the Tech Interview Pro, it is a one-time payment. But, you need to keep renewing your subscription with LeetCode. It could be a monthly or yearly package. It is not a ‘lifetime’ payment like the Tech Interview Pro.
Both are good for preparing for an interview, but the Tech Interview Pro has an edge and higher benefits.
Tech Interview Pro vs Algoexpert
Another available option when it comes to preparing for tech interviews is Algoexpert. It covers aspects of coding and data structures, but it is not encompassing.
Everyone usually aims for the sky and above when venturing into something. For software engineers, it would be to get into a FAANG company. AlgoExpert is an excellent platform, but it does not prepare you to get into a FAANG company. You will not learn soft interview skills if you depend on Algoexpert.
When compared to the Tech Interview Pro, you will see some similarities. This plays out in the aspect of pricing. Both of them are not free. But the Tech Interview Pro is more encompassing,
Suppose you are aiming to get into a FAANG company. What better way to prepare than to learn from someone who has worked in some of these companies? You have an advantage when the Tech Lead is your tutor.
FANNG represents the five giant tech companies, and Facebook is one of them. Recall that the Tech Lead has worked in many top tech companies, including Facebook.
AlgoExpert strives in Coding and Data Structures, but it lags in Communication and System Design. On the other hand, the Tech Interview Pro strives in all four areas.
Although we can still recommend Algoexpert to software engineers, it is best that they go for the Tech Interview Pro. To succeed, you need to know all areas and aspects of your field. The Tech Interview Pro makes this possible.
Tech Interview Pro Price – Is Tech Interview Pro Worth It?
We consider the Tech Interview Pro pricing to be fair when you think of all its benefits.
It is a one-time payment that will last for a lifetime.
You might see websites or applications that offer similar services at a lower price. But when you calculate the monthly or yearly payment for three years and above, it goes past the cost of the Tech Interview Pro.
It is financially sensible to invest in the Tech Interview Pro as you always have access to all its benefits!
There is also the TechSeries Affiliate Program that lets you get this program at a lower price.
Although there are some controversies surrounding the course and the creator, we still do recommend Tech Interview Pro.
To be sincere, Tech Lead isn’t the favorite in the tech world and he has many reasons to hate him.
Talk about how he doesn’t fail to remind you that he’s a millionaire (as a millionaire), the not-so-cool videos about his divorce that paints his wife black, etc.
But this doesn’t mean you can’t learn a lot from him. He has the experience and living proof of landing jobs in the big tech companies in the world.
The Tech Interview Pro program is there for software engineers who want to excel at different tech companies. We recommend the Tech Interview Pro.
