Solo Build It! is an online business training platform that doubles as a website builder. This particular combo of services is quite rare but plenty interesting.
Solo Build It! is rather inexpensive compared to some of its competitors out there, but it makes daring claims as to its benefits and features.
So I decided to take the software for a spin and see how it measures up in the relevant areas.
The review you are now about to read is the chronicle of everything I discovered about the platform through my interaction with it and the user feedback I got.
Throughout this review, I will explore the course in the following categories viz:
- Overview of Solo Build It!
- Solo Build It! Course Creator
- What Is Inside Solo Build It!
- Solo Build It! Pros
- Solo Build It! Cons
- Solo Build It! Pricing
- My Verdict: Is Solo Build It! Worth It?
Let’s get this party started.
Overview of Solo Build It
Solo Build It! (let’s call it SBI! for short) is an online course and mentorship program for anyone who wants to build an online business.
The program will teach you (hopefully) everything you need to know about creating your own website, which you can then monetize.
SBI! positions itself as an all-in-one package. You don’t just learn the technical aspects of building a website. You will also get a complete website builder with your subscription and directions on where and when to apply each tool.
All that is to say, SBI! helps you build as you learn. They give you theoretical coaching and let you engage in practical application by providing all the tools needed to build a website from scratch and monetize your passion.
The course platform was created with retiring seniors in mind. Still, I find that the training is helpful to anyone interested in an online side hustle, especially if you are a complete newbie to website building and online marketing.
When you sign up with the platform, you will get courses, guides, tools, and access to a community of SBI! users who are also using the platform to build their online businesses.
Solo Build It—Course Creator
Ken Evoy is the founder of SBI!, and for the most part, he has a good reputation. Ken Evoy is also the creator of SiteSell, the parent company of SBI!
I did a brief check on Ken via LinkedIn and Wikipedia, and from what I saw, Ken is no babe in online business and marketing.
The 69-year-old was the one who familiarized us with the marketing term “preselling,” which we understand today to mean getting your audience to trust you by giving them expert information. Preselling opens the way to monetizing your service or product.
SBI! is by no means Ken’s first entrance into the realm of online entrepreneurship. And neither is SiteSell. Between 1985 and 1988, Ken was the most popular toy designer in Canadian (if I’ve not said it before, Ken is a Canadian).
In that same period, Ken’s Isovoy (a husband-wife partnership) created and licensed more than 20 toy creations.
All that adds a layer of confidence when deciding to sign up for SBI! since you can rest assured that you are not paying for trial-and-error tactics.
What Is Inside Solo Build It?
With the tools and personalized help SBI provides, you will learn how to find the right niche, rake in a massive following on social media, and provide your audience with content they care about.
SBI! main selling point is their condensed formula for successfully monetizing your blog or website.
In this section, I will talk about everything in the course, such as the training style, the learning experience, and the course structure.
The training style is more of a hands-on approach that gives you the step-by-step path to success in your online marketing. This learning path of sorts is branded as the CTPM process.
Without going into the technicalities, what the CTPM process means is that you have to start with producing content that answers a lot of people’s queries online. The “C” stands for content.
Finding your niche and conducting keyword research is the foundation of the content stage, and SBI! has tools to help with that. The Brainstorm It tool, for instance, enlists the help of artificial intelligence to help you find high-ranking keywords.
The training then guides you to the traffic stage (represented by “T”) of your journey and then the preselling (“P”) phase before you monetize (M).
The learning experience is where things get a little awkward. To start with, the whole user interface looks like something from the early 2000s. If you’ve tried loading a web page on a feature phone (the kind with a physical keypad), you know what I’m talking about.
The layout of the website makes it look rather clumsy and unintuitive. As if that were not enough, the course materials themselves are all over the place. They don’t follow any logical pattern in their arrangement.
The course content is organized into ten modules or days in SBI!’s naming convention. The modules go like this:
- Intro: The 10-Day Big Picture
- Day One: Master the ALL-Important Basics
- Day Two: Develop Your Best Site Concept
- Day Three: Brainstorm Profitable Topics
- Day Four: Investigate & Plan Monetization Options
- Day Five: Refine Site Concept & Register Domain Name
- Day Six: Build a Site That Gets The Click!
- And so on
SBI! also has a sprawling community of fellow students and business owners who used the platform to start their entrepreneurial journey online.
And then, there are the tools. For the record, SBI! has more website-building tools than you might care to keep count of. No, no, there is no point in listing them here. All you have to know about them is that they cater to every aspect of keyword research, website building, traffic monitoring, website analytics, and more.
SBI! even goes as far as offering integrations with Alexa and any email service of your choice.
Solo Build It! Pros
Provides an Actionable Roadmap
All the training SBI! Gives you on building a successful website can be summarized into the CTPM protocol, which stands for content, traffic, preselling, and monetization.
By doing so, the online marketing course teaches you all the steps needed to set up an online business and helps you to apply them in the proper order.
As you progress through the course, you will learn when to get a domain name. You will even be required to get one if you want to apply the training that comes after.
That way, even if you were hesitant to take the first step, you will have no choice but to just start.
This approach makes it much easier for newbies to connect the dots and avoid feeling overwhelmed by everything it takes to launch a successful site.
All-in-one Package
SBI! is more than just a course; it is a collection of tools every website builder needs.
There are tools for keyword research, article writing, website security, technical SEO, and so on.
The good thing is that you also get training on using some of these tools. The more technical tools don’t pose a problem as SBI! implements them on your behalf.
Allows You To Learn From Others
SBI! includes a community in its package. The community is a vibrant one and also includes people who have applied the training on SBI! to start their own online business.
The success stories and the encouragement from others in the community can motivate you to get going.
You will also find new ideas and strategies that you can replicate to get similar results as others.
Generous Refund Policy
SBI! provides one of the most liberal refund policies I’ve ever seen in an online course. After paying for a monthly or yearly subscription, you can apply for a refund within 90 days of your purchase and get your money back without needing an explanation.
Living Content
SBI!’s learning material is frequently updated to reflect the latest changes in the world of online entrepreneurship. You can be sure of always getting up-to-date info on such topics as SEO and social media.
At the same time, there are Zoom calls and interactive forums where you can always glean new insights.
No Hidden Charges
When you sign up on SBI!, you don’t need anything else to upgrade to a more “premium” package. There are no upsells that they try to convince you to buy.
Your subscription fee also covers the cost of the tools that SBI! provides for website building.
Solo Build It Cons
While there are a lot of things to like about SBI!, the truth is that it has a few kinks worth addressing. Here they are:
Organization Could be Better
As I said earlier, the layout of items on the website is quite unintuitive, and you could waste a lot of time searching for hidden icons.
The time that could have been spent digesting content can quickly be lost trying to find your way around the platform.
There is a search button to help you get to specific items faster, but it’s not always around.
Analytics Tools Can Be Misleading Sometimes
SBI! is great for having its own website-building tools and all that stuff, but you’d be better off not relying on the analytics function.
It’s rather hit-and-miss, as it doesn’t always give the correct stats for your traffic. You could end up thinking that you have more traffic to your website than there really is.
With that in mind, it would be wise to have Google Analytics on hand.
No Free Trial
While the refund policy is excellent, there’s no telling when you could run into refund issues due to a bad network or anything banking related.
In my opinion, you shouldn’t have to pass through the payment commitment when you are new to the service and want to test it out.
Outdated UI
SBI!’s user interface is such that you could easily dismiss the content as crappy if you judge solely by the looks of their website.
Loading times are okay whether you use a mobile device or a PC, but in a day and age where customers care about visuals a lot, SBI! could lose out to competitors that have better aesthetics.
First impressions matter, and SBI!’s UI seems to defy that principle.
Mostly A Beginners Affair
The level of training in website building and optimization might wow you if you are an absolute beginner, but that’s all about it.
As your website expands and you need to add more functionalities, you will soon find yourself outgrowing the training on SBI!
And if you have already mastered website building, SBI! is not for you.
Solo Build-It Pricing
Solo Build It has two pricing tiers: Solo Build It! and Solo Build It! for WordPress.
The Solo Build It plan costs $35 monthly for the monthly billing. The annual billing costs $329.99.
With the standalone tier, you get access to all of SBI!’s web-building tools and other benefits in addition to the courses and community.
With the standalone tier, you won’t need WordPress or any web hosting platform, as SBI! will handle everything.
The Solo Build It! for WordPress costs $19.99 monthly for the monthly billing or $169.99 for the annual billing.
This plan is for when you want to use SBI! only for learning purposes but want to use third-party services like WordPress for your web building.
Is Solo Build It! Worth It?
For the money you pay, yes.
Building your online business and website from scratch can seem daunting. You need to know the process to follow.
But many of the best coaching platforms for website building charge high rates for their services, and as a newbie, the training they provide may be overwhelming.
Solo Build It! represents a very inexpensive way to start learning how to start your online journey.
And yes, the training lives up to its claims if you can look past the somewhat ugly user interface.
But all that changes if you have already mastered website building. You would do better with a more advanced platform than SBI!
So yes, SBI! is worth a shot if you are new to the game.
