Maybe you recently made plans to make day trading your side hustle or your main stream of income.
And just then, an ad threw the Humbled Trader Academy in your face. Perfect coincidence, right?
The Humbled Trader Academy is indeed an online course for learning day trading, but its owner launched the platform just the day before last. Wait… okay, that was 2021, but you get the point.
The question is, can a course that young take you from rookie to pro in day trading?
That’s the question this review is dedicated to answering.
Let’s begin.
Overview of Humbled Trader Academy
The Humbled Trader Academy is an online platform for learning how to day trade in the stock market.
The course platform first started on YouTube before the owner decided to dedicate a website to the Humbled Trader Academy.
The course platform’s website is a low-key one. It doesn’t have many flashy additions and pages, but it does an excellent job advertising the course.
The Humbled Trader Academy teaches day trading tactics and strategies using pre-recorded videos. There are over 500 day-trading training videos in the video library.
In addition to that, you get a trading chat room. This is where you can connect with the team of trading coaches and community members in real-time to expedite your learning.
You also get a member-exclusive resource center for extra tools and platforms to assist you in your day trades.
These features and more promise a hassle-free user experience, but Humbled Trader Academy hasn’t always been what it is now.
The Academy was formerly the HT community, but in late 2021, Shay completely revamped the course content and renamed it to the Humbled Trader Academy. Not all the new changes are rosy, however. For instance, the HT community allowed monthly subscription access (about $300), which has been discontinued in favor of a hefty one-time fee of $1870.
Nevertheless, the new Humbled Trader Academy is better in almost every other way. For one thing, it’s now more inclusive. You get all the benefits of the Academy along with the community. Before, you had to subscribe separately for each.
Who owns Humbled Trader?
Humbled Trader is the brainchild of no other person than Shay Huang.
Shay Huang is of Asian descent (she’s Taiwanese, to be exact), but she and her family immigrated to Canada from Taiwan when she was approaching her teen years.
It was also around that time that Shay’s trading journey began. She was holding a job in the video filming industry and would use her free time to research the trade market and execute a few trades.
After much research and—many failed trades, Shay shifted strategies. Initially, she relied solely on trade alerts and shortcuts, but she started emphasizing in-depth market research and journaling the tricks that worked for her. All of this gradually helped her to start making smarter trade decisions based on concrete strategies. She also began to adjust her trading methods to market trends.
When Shay realized she was competent enough to start mentoring newbies, she started her own YouTube channel. It was her way of sharing her market insights and trading strategies with the online public. Shay’s YouTube channel now has 997,000 subscribers, just shy of a million.
Shay grew up in a family of humble means (probably why she calls herself the “humbled trader’). In one of the videos on her website, she talks about how her family struggled to get a car shortly after immigrating to Canada. It’s no Lambo, but I digress.
Shay enjoys being among the few female traders with an active presence on YouTube. We can’t ignore the contribution that privilege has made toward her success.
Humbled Trader Net Worth
Knowing how much your mentor day trader has made or is making from the trade is an excellent way to be sure that you are not getting scammed into something that has no real potential.
It can also boost your confidence when you realize you can copy your trainer’s strategies and get similar results. In short, you can rest assured that you are learning the right thing from the right person.
Do we have anything like that from the Humbled Trader? Yes. Although she doesn’t say the exact amount anywhere, in a video interview she had with a popular YouTuber, Zach Hartley, she mentions that she makes up to $50,000 in a month.
That adds up to about $6,000,000 in a year on average. That’s a lot of money, especially when you consider the highly unpredictable nature of day trading and how easy it is to lose money if you make any mistake or make a decision ignorant of the market direction.
And Shay isn’t just starting. She has been replicating the same successful strategies for years, tweaking them to adjust to different market situations. Given how much she can make in a month alone, you can expect her net worth to be a seven-digit figure. $50,000,000 is not a bad estimate.
Humbled Trader Academy
Humbled Trader Academy launched in 2021, an offshoot of the YouTube channel that has been around since 2018.
The course platform comes with a community which is an excellent addition.
When you pay for the training, you are granted one year of full access to the course content.
You’ll be taught day trading from beginner up to the intermediate level in 12 hours of pre-recorded videos.
The videos are pretty short. The longest is around 15-20 minutes, all screen recordings.
Some essential things you’ll learn include trade planning, risk management, and trading strategies.
There is also a weekly mentorship program included in the Academy where you can connect with the trading coaches one on one for further guidance.
What Is In The Course?
The course itself has 150+ videos grouped into 18 units (that’s what Shay calls them)
Units one and two are intros. They acquaint you with the course, and Shay shares a bit about herself.
To make sure your learning is organized, there is a dashboard that displays your lessons and your progress.
Shay also makes sure that your learning process is free of any gaps. After completing a lesson, you have to take a short, simple quiz. You can’t bypass the quiz and jump to the next lesson. Neither can you unlock the next class if you fail the test.
I will now highlight the course curriculum.
Unit 1: What to Expect from the Humbled Trader Academy
Unit 2: Who is Humbled Trader?
Unit 3: HT Roadmap for Beginner Traders
Unit 4: Stock Market Lingo for Beginners
Unit 5: Brokers & Trading Platform Set Up
Unit 6: Introduction to Candlestick Charts
Unit 7: Technical Analysis
Unit 8: Risk Management
Unit 9: Trade Journal & Tracking
Unit 10: Trade Planning: Small Caps
Unit 11: Trade Planning: Large Cap Stocks
Unit 12: Long Set Up 1
Unit 13: Long Set Up 2
Unit 14: Long Set Up 3
Unit 15: Short Set Up 1
Unit 16: Short Set Up 2
Unit 17: Trader Psychology & Longevity in the Market
Unit 18: Advanced Trading Strategies
Units one through four prepare you for the rest of the course content.
I especially like unit four for how it explains all the terms you should know and will be used as a stock trader. You can even get the entire glossary in PDF format.
In unit five, you’ll come across such terms as Thinkorswim, Benzinga Pro, and DAS Trader Pro, among others.
If you already have some knowledge of these trading platforms and brokerages, you will quickly finish this unit. If they are new to you, don’t fret. They are explained very simply.
This unit also features a simulated day trading setting with actual market conditions so you can experience a typical day trade.
Do you wonder what those little green and red bars on stock on a stock market screen mean?
They are candlestick charts, and units six through seven will tell you everything about what those charts indicate, from support and resistance to trend analysis, price flow, et cetera.
Unit eight teaches you everything about risk management. You will need that insight before learning trade planning and strategies in unit nine.
Some resources these units will gift you include an account risk calculator and an MS Excel trading journal, both downloadable.
Large caps and small caps are the focus of units 10 through 11. This is where the actual trade work starts. Once you get here, you are almost ready to start planning and executing real day trades yourself. You can finally decide which stocks have potential and which you should invest in based on their behavior in different market conditions.
As you take the courses, you will quickly notice that consistency and patience are necessary qualities highlighted in training—consistency in applying the right strategies and patience to wait for these strategies to yield fruit.
You can’t just try a certain protocol and then quickly discard it because it is not yielding results immediately. You also need to record when your trades go well and when they don’t, and what you did differently or didn’t do in each case.
One of Shay’s popular methodologies is to focus on the process, not the profits. In other words, focus on doing the right thing and taking the right risk to succeed in the long term.
Now, that looks rich. Keep in mind that this course is meant for beginners to day trading, so if you are creasing your eyebrows with the curriculum, well, you are probably an advanced trader. Why are you even here?
But if I haven’t said it before, take this, the course is quite pricey at nearly $2,000.
I know the following question on your mind, is the Humbled Trader Academy worth it? We’ll come to that.
Humbled Trader Academy Special Features
Okay, now it’s time to talk about a few things that set the Humbled Trader Academy apart from other day trading courses.
Well Defined Trade Setup
Unlike in some other courses, Shay focuses on six specific setups for day trading. Many other systems in her niche overwhelm you with extensive parameters, whereas Shay talks about the most important things you should be looking at in your trades.
Discord Trading
Access to the Discord Trading channel is included in your subscription and allows you to contribute to the Academy and gain valuable insights.
It’s like a conference. You can relate with the entire team of coaches, meet other traders, and even attend the live weekly mentorship sessions.
How much does Humbled Trader cost?
Right now, the Humbled Trader goes for $1870.
With that hefty fee, you get lifetime full access for one year and all course updates.
Available Discounts
Shay very rarely runs discounts for her paid course. And right now, there are no promo or discount codes to trim the price.
Refund Policy
Paying nearly $2,000 for a course is a great leap of faith, but thankfully, there is a way to avoid getting bitten if you don’t like the system.
After making payment, you can try the first two units and request a refund if your gut advises you against continuing the training, provided you didn’t venture into unit three in any way.
You must also request a refund within ten days of making your purchase.
Is Humbled Trader Academy worth it?
Humbled Trader Academy is recommended for beginner-to-day trading. If you are an advanced trader, you might get bored with the basic training.
You can access much of the course content on YouTube for free—at least from units 1-12. The real meat is in units 12-18. There you’ll gain trading insights you can’t find in a free training class.
The HT Beginner Trader roadmap you get from the Academy is another irreplaceable resource that helps you know where to start your trading journey and the various steps to take along the way.
Is Humbled Trader real?
Of course, yes. A real person owns the Humbled Trader Academy, and real people deliver the course content. Also, you get to connect with real trade coaches in the community.
Besides, you get actionable training you can practice in real life. Plus, Shay shows you from her screen many of the successful strategies she has used to execute actual trades.
You’ll get to see which trades went well and which ones hit a stone wall. Shay spells out everything for you, down to the mistakes she has made in the past trading.
Pros
If you decide to purchase the Humbled Trader course, you will stand to benefit from the following:
• One-on-one mentorship and access to a large community of trade experts, so you don’t have to learn independently.
• Well-structured courses. You can’t jump courses.
• Curriculum is continually updated.
• The training is more practical than theoretical.
Cons
These are the areas where Humbled Trader falls short of perfection:
• Despite the high price of the course, you only get a year of access to it.
• You have to pay the total price of the course before you get a chance to test it.
Student Reviews
Many who have used Humbled Trader have something to say about the platform. Here are some of them, as revealed in the following screenshots:
Is it a Scam?
Humbled Trader is no scam. Shay teaches you the exact strategies she uses to make $50,000+ monthly.
She is not teaching you what she hasn’t done.
And although the asking price is on the high side, the training is intensive, and from time to time, you’ll receive personal attention from the coaches assisting the Humbled Trader.
So do I recommend the course to you? If you are an advanced trader, no, the Humbled Trader isn’t for you.
But if you are a beginner and you’ve got $2,000 to spend plus extra money to put the training to practice, then go ahead; you won’t get burnt.
Alternatives
The Humbled Trader is not a bad course at all, and if you can afford the high pricing, you won’t regret the experience.
That said, there are many alternatives to the Humbled Trader that offer their services for a far more flexible pricing structure and deliver similar or even better services.
Go through the list below for my pick of the top two alternatives to the Humbled Trader Academy.
TopStepTrader (TS Trader)
TopStepTrader is an American brokerage firm and day trade training platform established in 2012 by Michael Patak.
The firm is currently among America’s 5,000 Fastest Growing Companies.
The TopStepTrader is designed to both teach newbie day traders and also provide a simulated trading experience. After that, a day trader can be funded with real money by the company.
So you can trade with a company-funded account to hone your skills while making your own money. Sweet right?
With TopStepTrader, you can access many training programs that include daily live trading classes, group coaching sessions, individual performance coaching sessions, digital coaching, and more.
You will even be able to watch professional traders trade in real-time and there is, of course, a vast community far bigger than what the Humbled Trader offers.
The TopStepTrader has different monthly subscription plans starting at $165. The higher tiers demand $325 and $375, respectively.
The company also allows a 14-day free trial that doesn’t require you to add your credit card.
Bear Bull Traders
The Bear Bull Trader is a training platform that focuses on day trading but also incorporates elements of swing trading.
Andrew Aziz founded the course in 2016. He is a Ph.D. holder from British Columbia and has written several best-selling books on day trading.
Bear Bull Traders has a very immersive training structure consisting of various trading chat rooms, educational videos, and courses on day trading, stock trading, and options trading.
In addition to the courses, you will have daily opportunities to monitor the stock market under the guidance of coaches and other expert traders.
Trading psychology is given much attention in the course, which should favor newbies to day trading.
However, unlike TopSecretTrader, Bear Bull Trader doesn’t treat futures and forex trading.
And in terms of course structure, the Humbled Trader beats the Bear Bull Trader with better organization.
But the Bear Bull Trader allows you to view live trades performed as the moderators apply the strategies they teach you. That can be super helpful as you’ll avoid making costly mistakes in your own trade.
The Bear Bull Trader has three subscription plans which are all cheaper.
